About the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

Aylesbury Waterside Theatre was officially opened by Cilla Black on 12 October 2010, during a live celebratory event attended by stage stars including Simon Callow, David Suchet and Ruby Wax. The town’s council first began plans for the venue in 2003, with a view for it to replace the Civic Theatre that sat in the same location. The construction’s traditional topping out ceremony was completed by locally-born actress Lynda Bellingham in April 2009, ahead of its official opening and first performance, Northern Ballet’s Swan Lake , the following year.

Located in Aylesbury’s vibrant town centre, the theatre is currently managed by the Ambassador Theatre Group. With an exterior design inspired by the rolling Chiltern Hills that surround the town, the building is a multi-purpose venue, equipped with cutting-edge technology. It hosts large touring musicals, tribute bands, film screenings, children’s shows and a range of other events including Aylesbury’s popular annual pantomime.

Aylesbury Waterside Theatre is located in Aylesbury’s easily navigated town centre, just across the road from a large cinema and minutes away from two shopping centres, with further amenities nearby. The theatre’s café is open from 10am on performance days, with food and drink on offer until show time. Situated on the Grand Union Canal, Vale Park is a short walk away, with several chain restaurants approximately 10 minutes from town’s High Street, Kingsbury and Buckingham Street.

The box office is open 90 minutes before a main house show, or 60 minutes before a Norman Bragg Studio show. It closes 15 minutes after the show.

The theatre opens up to 90 minutes before performances start, with other on-site facilities such as the Waterside Café serving food from 12pm. The modern and attractive venue is a pleasant place to enjoy a relaxing drink before the show, so it is worth arriving early.

The Waterside Café is open from 12pm on performance days, serving a range of food and drink including plant-based options. Visitors to the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre can also enjoy pre-show drinks and snacks at bars on every level, including the Ambassador Lounge, and private bars in Cartwright Room and Second Space.

A cloakroom is located in the Stalls foyer, and items can be stored for £1. ATG Theatre Card members are able to use the cloakroom free of charge. The cloakroom is subject to availability so it may be best to avoid bringing items that can't be held on your lap during the performance and arrive early if you wish to store an item.

The venue is located in the centre of Aylesbury, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Chain restaurants including Zizzi, Wagamama and Nando’s are all within easy walking distance of the theatre.

For theatregoers on a budget, Travelodge Aylesbury is right across the road from the theatre, whilst The Bell Hotel is a similarly short walk away in the town centre.
