What is Edward Scissorhands about?

In a castle on a hill an eccentric inventor dies, leaving his creation unfinished. Shy Edward has scissors for hands and no human contact until a woman from the nearby town invites him to live with her family. Thrown into the strange new world of suburban America, can Edward find his place when everyone around him struggles to look beyond the surface?

Tim Burton’s now-iconic film has etched itself on the hearts of a generation, and Matthew Bourne’s dance production celebrates its spirit to breathtaking effect.

Edward Scissorhands on stage features the quirky but hauntingly beautiful score by Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, and audiences will be swept up in this witty and bittersweet story, performed by a talented company of dancers.

Olivier Award-winner Matthew Bourne’s take on this kooky gothic film is just one of his many iconic and genre-defining dance productions; he is famous for using an all-male company of swans in Swan Lake, and his other works include Nutcracker!, Romeo and Juliet, The Red Shoes and The Car Man - a modern dance adaptation of Carmen.

Bourne and his company New Adventures’ Edward Scissorhands premiered in 2005 and has captivated audiences in America, Australia, Korea, Japan and Europe. A major revival followed in 2014, and it is now back in the UK for the first time in nine years.
