About the Marie Curie Musical

Marie Curie: physicist, pioneer, parent. She is determined to make a name for herself when she travels from her native Poland to study at Sorbonne University in Paris, and she succeeds. After discovering Radium, Marie becomes the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize and her research could save thousands of lives afflicted by cancer. But it comes at a moral cost: factory workers handling the new chemical element are struck down by the insidious effects of radium poisoning. Is her discovery a blessing, a curse, or both?

The Marie Curie musical is a sweeping tribute to one of history’s biggest changemakers and the barriers she broke to get her research out into the world. After premiering in South Korea in 2020 - where its filmed broadcast attracted 790,000 viewers - it now comes to the UK for its English-language premiere.

Creative Team

The musical was originally written in Korean by Seeun Choun, with music by Jongyoon Choi. Their work is adapted for English by Tom Ramsay and Emma Fraser, alongside literal translation by Ahreumbi Rew. Sarah Meadows directs, following her acclaimed production of Ride at Charing Cross, with music direction from Emma Fraser and choreography by Joanna Goodwin.

Together, the team marks a huge milestone for both Korean and British theatre with their production of a musical that combines science, art and history to breathtaking effect.

I have seen this show twice now and really like it. Of course it's a fascinating story, and the cast are excellent, especially Ailsa Davidson as Marie. Absolutely beautiful vocals and the more I hear the songs, the more I like them!
