What Is The Musical Nanny McPhee About?
In Victorian England, following the death of their mother, the Brown children have become incredibly naughty, and their widower father is struggling to cope. Will the Brown children learn to behave with a sprinkling of sorcery?
The History of Nanny McPhee the Musical
Nanny McFee is based on the 2005 film of the same name, which is based on well-loved children’s book Nurse Matilda. The film’s all-star cast included Thompson herself as the titular Nanny and Colin Firth as Mr Brown, as well as stage and screen legends Imelda Staunton, Sir Derek Jacoby, Angela Lansbury and Adam Godley.
The musical has been workshopped to develop the show, and has been long-rumoured for a West End debut, with Thompson stating to The New Yorker Magazine that she hoped the musical would premiere in London in 2023! The show is now confirmed to premiere in 2027.
