This best-selling Julia Donaldson story springs from page to stage thanks to award-winning children’s theatre company Tall Stories, and invites little adventurers (and adults too) to enter the spooky woods and find out if the Big Bad Mouse really exists…

What is The Gruffalo’s Child About?

“No Gruffalo ever should step foot in the deep, dark wood…”

One dark and stormy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the dangerous Big Bad Mouse and decides to explore the woods by herself. She tiptoes out when everyone is asleep, follows snowy footprints along winding paths, and meets lots of strange and wonderful creatures.

But the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist, does he?

Engaging songs, lots of laughs and a little bit of scary fun make this enchanting adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s picture book the perfect show for young children, who will love seeing their favourite characters live on stage. Adults will enjoy it too because it is packed with brilliant surprises that brings out the youngster in all of us!

About The Gruffalo

Everyone knows about The Gruffalo: Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s most famous creation, and the winner of the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize. The picture book first came out in 1999 and has become a classic story for young children to gobble up - so many, that over 13.5 million copies have been sold!

The Gruffalo has been adapted into a festive favourite BBC film with Robbie Coltrane as the voice of the Gruffalo, and into a fun and engaging play by Tall Stories. In 2004, the Gruffalo’s daughter set out on her own adventure when The Gruffalo’s Child was published, and Tall Stories brought her story to the stage in 2005. Both The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child stage plays have been beloved favourites for families up and down the UK ever since, and they make the perfect introduction to theatre for little ones.

An interactive show, gets the audience to take part a lot. A fun take on the story book, they add in a few extra bits from what's in the book.

It is amazing what just 3 people can do... Show was great, slightly more interactive activities would have been good to keep little ones focussed to the end. The only other - minor - criticism is that they didn't readily identify the snake... a log Read more

Fabulous story. The 3 actors were amazing and had the children gripped throughout. My son hadn’t stopped talking about it since we came home. The free programme was a nice touch too.
