About the show
Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved picture book, The Snail and the Whale sees a plucky young girl and her father re-imagine the unlikely story of a snail’s intrepid trip around the world. The tiny adventurer hitches on the tail of a huge humpback whale, and together the duo explore the oceans on an amazing journey. But when the whale gets beached, can his tiny companion save him?
Featuring bright and colourful sets and music to engage even the youngest audience members, The Snail and the Whale is another hit from the Olivier Award-nominated Tall Stories (The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom). It is directed by Tall Stories co-founder Toby Mitchell, designed by Isla Shaw and composed by Richard Heacock.
The human cast includes Hannah Miller as Daughter/Snail, Tim Hibberd as Dad/Whale and Charlotte Mafham as Narrator/Viola Player.
Don your wellies and sailing caps for some thrill-seeking fun this festive period. The Snail and the Whale at the Apollo Theatre opens on 1 December.
