    West Side Story tickets

Following a hugely popular sell-out season in 2008, Stephen Sondheim’s revolutionary musical West Side Story returns to Sadler’s Wells. Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is the impassioned, unforgettable tale of love, war and friendship which changed the face of musical theatre. Featuring ground-breaking choreography by legendary Jerome Robbins, this extraordinary production dances into Sadler’s Wells as part of a UK tour.

West Side Story is the classic dance musical set in an Upper Westside New York neighbourhood, in the mid 1950’s. Rivalry is rife between two teenage gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, who are both of different ethnic backgrounds. When young Jet Tony falls for Maria, sister of the hot-tempered leader of the Sharks, love and loyalty come under question. Featuring a well-known score including “Maria”, “Tonight”, “I Feel Pretty” and “America”, West Side Story remains as fresh as it ever has been in this electrifying production.

A dynamic new cast lead West Side Story, with Katie Hall (Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables) as Maria and Louis Maskell (Scrooge – the Musical) as Tony. Further cast members include Djalenga Scott (Chicago, The Rocky Horror Show) as Anita and Jack Wilcox (Singin’ in the Rain, Wicked) as Riff. Joey McKneely directs and choreographs the production, using Robbins’ full, original choreography.

With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Sondheim, West Side Story is the pivotal musical that has defined the genre for years. McKneely’s production packs high energy with technical brilliance, to create a breath-taking performance that includes a live orchestra conducted by Donald Chan. Opening at Sadler’s Wells, don’t miss out on your chance to catch this extraordinary musical.

    Performance dates: 07 Aug 2013 - 12 Sep 2013

    Running time: 2hrs 30mins

Special notice: Fans of the original film and musical will love this revival, which uses Robbins’ original choreography. Musical theatre fans will also fall for this superb production! Due to themes of violence, West Side Story may not be suitable for children.
