Getting into the Venue
Sunderland Empire is situated on High Street West, with step-free access through the Foyer Bar to the main Stalls auditorium entrance. The Box Office is located 30 metres down High Street West from the Foyer Bar entrance and can be accessed through automatic doors. A drop-off point is located directly outside of the theatre.Customer lifts are available to take patrons to the Stalls and Dress Circle. All other sections of the venue must be accessed via steps. There is level access from the main foyer to wheelchair spaces in the Stalls of the auditorium and level access via a customer lift to wheelchair accessible Boxes in the Dress Circle.

Customer Assistance
Patrons with limited mobility and wheelchair users are advised to book seats in the Stalls. Box B and C in the Dress Circle are available for access patrons and should be inquired about in advance. Those who wish to transfer into aisle seats are advised to bring a companion and notify the theatre when booking. Staff are on hand to assist with navigation and the use of customer lifts.The Foyer, Stalls and Dress Circle bars are all accessible via lift. An at-seat service can be requested for those who are unable to access the bars, or for those who wish to remain seated during the interval.
Accessible toilets in the Stalls and Dress Circle can be reached via the lift. Please note that there is no cloakroom available at this venue.
How to Book
For those who require assistance or wish to book wheelchair or transfer spaces in the Stalls or Dress Circle Boxes, it is important to book in advance to guarantee availability and notify the theatre of any special requirements. Section Accessibility
Stalls
The Stalls are step-free from the main foyer, with level access to 6 wheelchair spaces situated on the left-hand side of the auditorium when facing the stage. These spaces are located at the end of each row, in seat 38 of Row D, F, H, J, L and M, with the option for a companion to be seated in seat 37. Wheelchair positions in row Row L and M can only accommodate a small standard wheelchair. The wheelchair positions are on a gentle incline.
Those who wish to transfer into aisle seats must notify staff upon arrival. Routes are clearly signposted and staff are on hand to assist with navigation and the use of customer lifts. Seats recommended by the venue for transfers are P19-20, P20-21, H1-2 and I1-2. Please note that T19 is not suitable for transfers because there is a pillar located next to it.
Legroom is good throughout this section, however the barrier between the orchestra pit and seating may restrict legroom in Row A.
Dress Circle
The Dress Circle and Slips can be accessed via 15+ steps up from the main foyer or via customer lift. Handrails are in place and steps are clearly highlighted. Boxes B and C are available for access patrons at the rear of the section, and can be booked in advance depending on the production.
Legroom is good throughout this section barring the Slips, where legroom is limited. The Slips are not suitable for those with limited mobility as there are steps to reach each row.
Upper Circle
The Upper Circle is accessible via 15+ steps up from the main foyer or Dress Circle. All steps have handrails in place and are clearly highlighted. Please note that there is no lift access to the Upper Circle, therefore this section is unsuitable for those with limited mobility.
Legroom may be slightly more limited in the Upper Circle.

The Gallery is accessible via 15+ steps up from the main foyer or Dress Circle. All steps have handrails in place and are clearly highlighted. Please note that there is no lift access to the Gallery, therefore this section is unsuitable for those with limited mobility.
