Getting into the Venue
The Edinburgh Playhouse is situated on Greenside Lane and is step-free from the street into the Circle Bar, which is located on the right-hand side of the foyer. Entering through this main entrance gives level access to Circle seating, which is easy access for those with limited mobility.All sections of the theatre must otherwise be reached by steps, as there is no customer lift. The Edinburgh Playhouse is not accessible for those with mobility scooters.
Customer Assistance
Staff are on hand for patrons who require assistance. Those who wish to transfer into aisle seats are advised to bring a companion. It is recommended that those wishing to transfer book seats in the rear Circle for their own ease. Please note that transfers may require two or more steps to reach.The Edinburgh Playhouse is able to store wheelchairs in the Circle Bar for the duration of the performance. There is no cloakroom at this venue.
The Bistro and Ambassadors Lounge is located up three flights of stairs. An at-seat service is also available on request for those that are unable to access the bars. Staff must be notified prior to the performance if this service is required.
How to Book
For those who require assistance or wish to book wheelchair spaces and transfers, it is important to book well in advance to guarantee availability and notify the theatre of any special requirements. Section Accessibility
Stalls
The Stalls can be accessed via 40 steps down from the step-free main entrance. This section must be reached by steps as there is no customer lift available. Steps are clearly highlighted and handrails are in place. This section is not recommended for those with limited mobility.
Legroom is good throughout this section, particularly towards the front and in aisle seats.
Circle
The Circle can be accessed step-free from street level, with staff on hand to assist with navigation for access patrons. Both wheelchair and transfer spaces are available towards the rear of the seating. There are 8 wheelchair spaces available in Row M. Those who wish to transfer can do so to aisle seats at the rear of the Circle, which may require two or more steps to reach.
Once inside the Circle, there are steps up and down to all of the rows, aside from Row M.
Extra legroom is available in the front of the Circle, specifically in the front-centre block of seating.
Balcony
The Balcony is accessible via 25 steps up from the theatre’s main entrance. This section must be accessed by steps as there is no customer lift. All steps are highlighted, with handrails in place. The Balcony is not recommended for those with limited mobility.
