About A Night with Janis Joplin

This multi-award-winning jukebox show is a fantastic journey that pays homage to Janis Joplin and her biggest influences from the world of music. Joplin was a rock & roll icon whose star burned brightly but all too quickly. After bursting onto the scene in 1967, she became an almost overnight sensation thanks to her distinctive voice that married raw emotional vulnerability with a Southern Comfort twang. She was a must-see headliner for huge festivals, from Monterey to Woodstock, but died aged just 27 from a heroin overdose.

Featuring unforgettable songs including “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of My Heart”, “Mercedes Benz”, “Cry Baby” and “Summertime”, A Night with Janis Joplin celebrates Janis’ electric legacy, as well as the musical heroes that inspired her - Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone, and Bessie Smith.

Cast and Creative Team

A Night with Janis Joplin is written and directed by Randy Johnson and choreographed by Patricia Wilcox (Motown the Musical on Broadway). The duo worked on the musical since its inception, and it launched in 2011 before touring for two years - and breaking box office records - and transferring to Broadway in October 2013. Since closing in New York, it has continued to tour and enjoyed a successful run in Japan in 2022.

Mary Bridget Davies reprises her starring role as Janis Joplin, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical. Davies is the lead vocalist in her band, The Mary Bridget Davies Group, and is an interpreter of Janis Joplin’s music.
