“I wish! More than anything”The Baker and his Wife desperately want a child, Little Red Riding Hood wants to visit her sick grandma, Cinderella wants to attend the ball and Jack (of ‘and the Beanstalk’ fame) wants to save his beloved cow, Milky White, from being taken to market. The cast of fairytale characters venture into the deep dark woods, searching for the solution to their troubles, but when they run afoul of a Wicked Witch, their stories get entangled and new worries emerge.
Can the Witch's curse be broken? Will everyone make it “home before dark”? And what happens after happily ever after?
Full of princes, giants and big bad wolves, heartbreak, hope and magic quests, Into the Woods has become a true staple of musical theatre, and features well-known songs including “First Midnight”, “Agony”, “No One is Alone” and “Giants In the Sky”.
The History of Into the Woods
The musical first premiered in 1986 and turned the world of Grimm’s fairytales on its head. Subversive and enchanting, Into the Woods was a smash hit, earning ten nominations, and snatching three trophies, at the 1988 Tony Awards. Into the Woods has had many award-winning revivals and adaptations, including a Disney film starring Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine, which was nominated for three Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. This production at the Bridge marks the first major London revival of the musical in almost a decade, so don’t experience the “agony” of missing out - book now!Who are the cast and creative team of Into the Woods?

Previous productions have starred such powerhouse performers and musical theatre legends as Bernadette Peters, Hannah Waddingham, Tituss Burgess and Amy Adams - so make a wish for your dream cast!Into the Woods at the Bridge Theatre is directed by Olivier Award-winner Jordan Fein, who helmed the five-star sell-out revival of Fiddler on the Roof at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in summer 2024, also transferring to the Barbican this spring. Fein’s other credits include Oklahoma! at the Young Vic, Dark Disabled Stories at The Public Theater & The Bushwick Starr and the prologue to Cabaret at the Playhouse. On Into the Woods Fein is reunited with Tony Award-winning designer Tom Scutt, who also worked on Fiddler, with other credits including Little Shop of Horrors at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Ben Platt's Radio City Music Hall Concert for Netflix and A Very Expensive Poison at The Old Vic.
Into the Woods has a book by award-winning playwright and librettist James Lapine (Falsettos, Passion, Little Miss Sunshine) and music and lyrics by the late great Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, West Side Story, Gypsy). Lapine and Sondheim previously collaborated on Sunday in the Park with George.
