A World Elsewhere in London

A World Elsewhere, a brand new children’s show from the Olivier Award-winning team behind Midsummer Mechanicals, comes to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Bankside, Shakespeare’s Globe’s intimate indoor candlelit venue this summer. This new play follows a young boy and his imaginary friends as they face the fading light of their once vibrant story-world. With music, magic and theatrical invention, A World Elsewhere invites audiences aged 5+ to celebrate friendship, memory and the stories that shape us.

What is the family show A World Elsewhere about?

Cass has always lived with one foot in reality and the other in a world of imagination - a place shaped by his Grandma’s love of Shakespeare and powered by his own creativity. Alongside a loyal band of imaginary friends, he’s journeyed through shipwrecks, tangled with monsters, and crossed paths with heroes and villains alike.

But now, something’s changing. The stories no longer sparkle, the adventures feel flat, and a shadowy presence is creeping into the edges of his magical world. As the boundary between fantasy and reality begins to blur, Cass must face a new kind of challenge and discover what it takes to bring imagination back to life. Filled with heart, humour, and theatrical invention, A World Elsewhere is a new family play about memory, storytelling, and the magic we carry with us, even when the lights go out.
