The History of August: Osage County
August: Osage County premiered in 2007, performed by the acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. It transferred to Broadway later the same year, winning the Tony Award for Best Play, amongst others, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The show made its UK debut at the National Theatre in 2008, earning several Olivier nominations, and has since been mounted internationally. It was adapted into a film in 2013 with a script by Letts, starring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor and Benedict Cumberbatch. Streep and Roberts both earned Academy Award nominations for their performances.
