One of the longest running musicals in the world, Cats wowed audiences from 1981-2002 at the New London Theatre in the West End and even transferred to Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre for eighteen years. Touring across the world and scooping two Laurence Olivier Awards plus seven Tony Awards, Cats is one of the most popular musicals ever made.
For the first time in twelve years, Cats returns to the West End stage, this time to the vast London Palladium Theatre with superstar Nicole Scherzinger playing the iconic Grizabella the Glamour Cat. Created by world famous composer, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tony and Laurence Olivier award-winning director Sir Trevor Nunn and classically trained choreographer Dame Gillian Lynn, the original team reunite once again to revive this timeless classic.
Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical takes audiences on a famously surreal journey into the world of the Jellicle Cats as they gather together for the Jellicle Ball. It is here that their leader, Old Deuteronomy, selects the cat that will ascend to the “Heaviside Layer” and be reborn. What follows is a series of “auditions” in which each cat tries to prove their worth. From the Rum Tum Tugger to Macavity, Gus the Theatre Cat to Skimbleshanks, Mungojerrie to Rumpleteazer, who will Old Deuteronomy choose to ascend?
Whilst Cats has been slightly modified for the modern day, the classic musical numbers ‘Memory’, ‘Skimbleshanks’, ‘Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer’, and ‘Journey to the Heaviside Layer’ are still very much present in the revamped production. ‘The Rum Tum Tugger’ may have had a bit of an update! Cats is fun for all the family and is guaranteed to provide an evening of entertainment that you will never forget.
CATS is a show that me and my family have all grown up. It's a beautiful show. This adaptation was wonderful, apart from one part that is normally done as a rap by a cat which was updated to the cat looking quite robotic which I did not enjoy. Some s Read more
