What is the dance show TUTU about?

TUTU is a playful exploration of dance’s most iconic costume, the tutu. The all‑male cast of six dancers, decked out in flamboyant tutus and their signature tulle tutu-trousers, take on a whole host of characters, from theatrical swans to hip‑hop divas. Expect fast‑paced and inventive parodies of classical ballet, contemporary dance, a cheeky take on Dirty Dancing, and even a nod to haka-inspired choreography. The humour may be silly and tongue in cheek, but the dance technique is real - this is highly skilled movement delivered with total theatrical abandon.

Chicos Mambo are a French dance group, who were founded in Barcelona in 1994 by choreographer Philippe Lafeuille; TUTU was created to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. The show has since become its most recognisable and beloved work, and since premiering, has toured globally, with hundreds of performances across Europe and beyond. Its infectious humour, eye-popping visuals and warm-hearted satire have helped the production achieve cult status among contemporary dance fans. TUTU has picked up multiple honours including the Audience Choice Award at the 50th Festival OFF d’Avignon and the Audience Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017.
