Dick Whittington is based on the true story of Richard Whittington, the Lord Mayor of London in the early 1600's. The pantomime tells the tale of his arrival in London as an impoverished youngster, with nothing but his pet cat, in search of his fortune. Inevitably, things begin to go wrong as Dick struggles to find success, but because it’s a pantomime, everything turns out well for the hero!
Jude Christian and Cariad Lloyd join forces to write the script. Christian is a director, writer and dramaturg, with recent credits including productions at Shakespeare’s Globe (Nanjing), Gate Theatre (Trust) and the Royal Court (My Mum’s a Twat, Bodies). Lloyd is an actor, comedienne and writer that has appeared on QI, Have I Got News for You and Toast of London. She is the creator of GriefCast and Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel and has written and performed two solo shows. Christian also directs the production.
The rest of the creative team include designer Jean Chan, lighting designer Tim Deiling, composer Corin Buckeridge, sound designers Ben and Max Ringham and choreographer Lainie Baird.
