Dickens with a Dolly Parton twist
The ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet to come get a Tennessee makeover in Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol. Visiting the Southbank Centre this winter, the musical features brand new songs from the Queen of Country.Parton’s take on the classic Christmas tale reimagines miserly, cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge as the owner of a Tennessean mining company town in the 1930s. As a snowstorm approaches, Scrooge is visited by ghosts who help him realise that family, friendship and generosity are worth more than money can buy.
This brand new musical, with a book by David H. Bell, features an original soundtrack from Dolly Parton. Her soulful and big-hearted songs reimagine Dickens’ timeless story, inspired by the music of her beloved Smoky Mountains home.
After celebrating a world premiere in Boston in 2019, the Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol London season marks its first European outing. Casting for Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol musical includes Robert Bathurst as Scrooge. Dolly Parton herself will not be appearing.

A Christmas Carol, Dolly style. I like country, but don't love it. I thought the songs were lovely and it was a nice retelling. Kids weren't impressed, but they didn't hate it. Wife thought it was nice.
