What is the dance show Body & Soul about?
In this compelling mixed bill, English National Ballet presents two newly commissioned works. First is the UK premiere of Body and Soul (Part 1) by Crystal Pite. The piece begins with two dancers in black suits, performing a duet to a looping French narration, gradually expanding into a hypnotic ensemble that mirrors waves of grief and collective response. The piece features narration by French actor Marina Hands and a score by Owen Belton and Chopin, weaving a rich soundscape that underlines the work’s shifting emotional tones.
Following this is the world premiere of a new work by rising choreographic voice Kameron N. SaundersIn three parts, Saunders' piece explores the struggle to express one’s authentic self in a world that projects expectations and judgments. With a powerful new score by Harold Walker III and Brandon Finklea, performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic, this work captures personal conflict, societal pressure, and transformation through bold, energetic movement.
Together, these two works make Body & Soul a vibrant and thoughtful evening of dance that cuts straight to the heart.
The History of Body & Soul
