Lloyd Webber's political epic returns
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical Evita enjoys a rock-infused revival in London. Bringing the story of controversial Eva Perón to life, the production opens at the Barbican Theatre after a sell-out season at Regent’s Park.Evita is the story of Argentina’s former First Lady Eva Perón, who inspired both hatred and worship. From humble beginnings to becoming the spiritual symbol of a nation, Perón’s famous speeches, charity work and glamorous lifestyle placed her in the history books.
First released as a rock-opera concept album, Evita premiered in the West End in 1978 and became a cultural hit thanks to soaring songs including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and the Academy Award-winning “You Must Love Me”.
The show features music and lyrics from theatre legends Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar) and is directed by Jamie Lloyd (Cyrano de Bergerac). Lloyd's exciting, visceral approach to reinventing classic theatre makes Evita tickets a must-have when it opens at the Barbican.
This incredible musical remains thrilling and timely decades after it premiered; don’t miss Evita when it returns to London for a limited run.
