Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical masterpiece Evita returns to the West End for strictly limited performances at the Dominion Theatre. Originally opening in London in 1978, Evita achieved huge success and has been revived on both the West End and Broadway. In 1996, Evita was adapted into a Golden Globe and Oscar-winning film starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. Now, the epic musical returns for 55 performances only.

Evita is the iconic musical that features a beloved score including “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, “Oh What a Circus” and “You Must Love Me”. Recounting the life Eva Peron, the wife of Argentine dictator Juan Peron, Evita charts Eva’s rise to political power as a spiritual leader, through to her death. An incredibly moving and unforgettable musical, Evita is the story of a woman who, from humble beginnings, rose to extraordinary wealth, power and status.

Madalena Alberto stars as Eva Peron, alongside pop icon Marti Pellow (Wet Wet Wet, Chicago, The Witches of Eastwick, Blood Brothers) as Che. Alberto is a Portuguese singer-songwriter, who most recently played Fantine in the 25th Anniversary production of Les Miserables. Further cast members include Ben Forster (Jesus Christ Superstar) as Magaldi and Matthew Cammelle (The Phantom of the Opera, South Pacific) as Peron. Evita is directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright.

With over 20 major awards, Evita is one of theatre’s most memorable musicals, and will be the first production to re-open the newly refurbished Dominion Theatre. First opening with Elaine Paige in the starring role, Evita received the 1978 Olivier Award for Best Musical and also became the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical. Now, the powerful production hits the West End, playing at the Dominion for limited performances beginning in September 2014.
