Step inside an English country house in 1945, where six German nuclear scientists’ every move is being recorded, as the “riveting wartime thriller” (The Guardian) Farm Hall play transfers to the West End. Based on real transcripts from World War Two’s Operation Epsilon, the best-selling show in the history of Jermyn Street Theatre comes to Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited season this autumn.About Farm Hall
Summer, 1945. Hitler is dead, but the Second World War still rages in the Pacific. The Allied Forces have detained six of Germany’s best nuclear scientists, including three Nobel Prize winners, at the stately home Farm Hall just outside Cambridge. As they keep themselves entertained with carefully redacted newspapers, a piano that doesn’t work properly and a copy of Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit, their peace is soon shattered by historic news. The United States has succeeded where the Germans failed, and have not only created an atomic bomb, but fired it towards Japan.Based on true events that took place at Farm Hall between July 1945 and January 1946, this thrilling play uses recordings of the scientists’ conversations - documented with bugs planted throughout the building - to bring a lesser-known piece of 20th-century history back to light.

Very interesting, very talky. The perfect play for six middle aged male actors! Interesting discussions about the ethics and science of atomic technology, and a nice ambiguity about the monologue at the end by Heisenberg. Great performances all ro Read more
