Opens 24th May

Jordan Fein’s bold, moving and critically acclaimed revival of the classic musical returns to London for a strictly limited run.

The Perfect Match: Tickets for Fiddler on the Roof

Miracle of Miracles! Jordan Fein’s critically acclaimed production of Fiddler on the Roof returns to London for a strictly limited run at the Barbican Theatre, before embarking on a UK tour. This “revamped, refreshed” (The Evening Standard) revival of the classic musical about a poor Jewish milkman and his headstrong daughters sold out its entire run at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2024, so make sure to catch yourself some tickets for what promises to be the theatrical event of the summer!

What is the musical Fiddler on the Roof about?

It’s 1905, and milkman Tevye lives in the tiny Russian village of Anatevka with his wife Golde and his five daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze and Bielke. Tevye lives proudly by his Jewish traditions - which include a visit to the matchmaker to find each of his daughters a husband. A poor girl should marry whoever the matchmaker brings - but Tevye’s daughters are strong-willed, and his three eldest wish to marry for love, with suitors that Tevye finds increasingly more unpalatable. As each daughter challenges his beliefs, and outside influences threaten his traditional way of life, Tevye must make a choice. Will he hold on to his religion and his roots, or learn to embrace an ever-changing world?

Fiddler on the Roof is based on a series of short stories in Yiddish by Sholem Aleichem, which were published between 1894 and 1914. The musical first opened on Broadway in 1964 and made history as the first show to have over 3,000 performances, holding the record for longest-running Broadway musical for over 10 years. The original Broadway production won nine Tony Awards and has been revived and adapted many times, including an Academy Award-winning film adaptation in 1971.

Jordan Fein’s production is a “masterclass in balancing innovation with tradition” (The Telegraph), a moving and joyful production that “blazes with relevance” (The Jewish Chronicle). Often considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time, Fiddler on the Roof features iconic songs including “Sunrise, Sunset", “Matchmaker” and “If I Were a Rich Man”. Don’t miss out on this strictly limited run - this is “Fiddler as London has never seen it before” (The Evening Standard).

Who are the cast and creatives of Fiddler on the Roof?

Casting is to be announced for the Barbican transfer and UK tour, but the cast for the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production included Adam Dannheisser (Beetlejuice, The Good Wife) as Tevye, Olivier winner Lara Pulver (Sherlock, Gypsy) as Golde and Hannah Bristow (As You Like It, Jane Eyre) as Chava, with violinist Raphael Papo as The Fiddler.

Fiddler on the Roof has an award-winning creative team and is helmed by Olivier-winning director Jordan Fein (Oklahoma, Eugene Onegin), with choreography by Olivier winner Julia Cheng (Cabaret, Seven Deadly Sins) and set design by Tony nominee Tom Scutt (Little Shop of Horrors, Jesus Christ Superstar).

The musical is based on the Sholem Aleichem Stories by Special Permission of Arnold Perl, with a book by Joseph Stein, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and music by Jerry Bock.
