Festive Magic With Hansel and Gretel Tickets

Treat your family to the sweetest of theatre trips at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre this Christmas! Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s acclaimed Hansel and Gretel play returns for a second year. Armitage’s lyrical take on the classic fairytale turns the Globe into a spellbinding forest, featuring music, magical storytelling, special surprises and a heartwarming message - perfect for children and their grown ups to enjoy together.

About Simon Armitage’s Hansel and Gretel

The Brothers Grimm’s story of Hansel, Gretel and their journey deep into the forest is one that we all know and love, given a new twist by Simon Armitage for the open-air Globe. When the siblings are led into the woods by their parents, they’re left alone. Their parents think it’s for the best because their village has been torn apart by war. But Hansel and Gretel are soon following a dangerous trail of sweet treats, straight to the front door of a mysterious old woman’s cottage…

In Simon Armitage’s vibrant new version of the classic tale, audiences feel like they’re hearing a childhood story, or gathering around the fire to share folktales. Music and songs link together with Armitage’s trademark poetry to engage all ages.

Armitage’s Christmas show is directed by Nick Bagnall, who has worked on several Shakespeare’s Globe productions including Love Labour’s Lost, The Death of King Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

This was a very modern take on the classic fairytale. I enjoyed the experience and my first time at the amazing Globe Theatre. There was nothing wrong with the show, it just wasn’t for me. I would’ve preferred a more traditional show. The costumes an Read more

Wasn't quite what I expected, Globe changed the storyline making them children of war. However, it was okay. Felt the price of the ticket was steep considering it was just for one hour. The rap was weird and I was not sure what the swan was about.
