The biblical rock opera returns
Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece Jesus Christ Superstar makes a triumphant return to London this summer. Following a successful season at Regent’s Park, the epic rock opera runs at the Barbican Theatre for a limited season.Based on the biblical story of Jesus’ final days, the musical is a witty, satirical take on religion, celebrity and the relationships between Jesus and his Disciples. Jesus Christ Superstar has proven controversial but remains a crowd-pleasing hit from Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice’s back catalogue. Its incredible, rock-infused musical numbers include "I Don't Know How to Love Him" and "Everything's Alright".
The Barbican production, which first opened at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2016 and 2017, is directed by Timothy Sheader and features choreography from Drew McOnie.
Casting includes Matt Cardle (Strictly Ballroom) as Pilate, Robert Tripolino as Jesus, Sallay Garnett as Mary and Ricardo Afonso as Judas.

The production has transferred well from the Regents Park Open Air Theatre. The leads are excellent with some sensational voices and the production values and overall style are superb. I imagine this will come back to London once again.
