About the Moulin Rouge Musical

Set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris as the 20th century stirs to life, Moulin Rouge! The Musical beckons audiences into a buzzing world of excess. Drinks flow freely, bohemians rub shoulders with aristocrats, and beneath the glaring spotlight and splendour, a courtesan and a composer fall in love – and fall into tragedy.

This is a true feast for the senses, with gorgeous set design by Derek McLane that spills out into the auditorium. Velvet, elephant, bright lights and sumptuous red backgrounds make this one of the most beautiful shows in the West End. It is so dazzling that it was nominated for five Olivier Awards including Best Set Design, and won for Best Costume Design.

Moulin Rouge Musical Songs - A Showstopper On Stage!

Inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical remixes songs from the movie with 21st-century chart-toppers including Lady Gaga and U2.

Fans of the film can enjoy all of the songs that made it a modern classic, including “Your Song” and “Material Girl”, “Lady Marmalade” and “Heroes”, along with a dizzying number of modern additions from Lorde’s “Royals” to Katy Perry’s “Firework”. Most spectacular of all is the updated “Elephant Love Medley”, a showstopping centrepiece that elevates the romance to new heights. Songs in the medley include “Don’t Speak”, “Love Hurts”, “Torn” and “Take On Me”.

Really disappointed with this show. An overblown, over amplified mess of a production. Cuts out all the heart, soul, joy and tragedy of the film and replaces it with knowing winks to the audience and a central relationship that just doesn’t work.
