Travel to the Italian Riviera and experience Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, Much Ado About Nothing at the National Theatre this summer. Moved from its original timeline to a 20th century setting, step inside Hotel Messina, which has been frequented by artists, royalty and celebrities since the 1930s. When the owner’s daughter Hero falls in love with a handsome young soldier, preparations for a huge celebration and wedding get underway. But things don’t always go smoothly, and soon scheming guests and a web of deception surrounds the young couple. Singletons Beatrice and Benedick are also caught in the crossfire. Who will have a happy ending? Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing play is one of his best-known comedies, celebrating love and starting afresh at any age. On the National Theatre’s Lyttelton stage, it is directed by Simon Godwin (Twelfth Night). The Much Ado About Nothing London cast includes BAFTA award winner Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) and John Heffernan as Beatrice and Benedick, alongside Ionna Kimbrook as Hero and Eben Figueiredo as Claudio. A really wonderful, lush and funny production of Much Ado. This should be sold out every night. It is a travesty that it isn’t. There are even some musicians on stage and some really wonderful singing and dancing.
