Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Returns To The West End

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is returning to the West End in 2027, a decade after the musical was last staged at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. West End royalty Michael Ball will star as Willy Wonka in the production. which will run at the London Coliseum from June for a limited time. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical in London

The gates to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory will open when the brand-new scrumptious production of Roald Dahl’s book heads to London in 2027. The musical has a book by David Greig, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features  Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley’s songs “Pure Imagination”, “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket” from the beloved 1971 film.

The musical follows Charlie Bucket on a remarkable adventure after he discovers a golden ticket and gains access to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Joined by Grandpa Joe and fellow ticket winners Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee, we experience what really happens beyond the factory gates in this vibrant production for audiences of all ages.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be staged at the Curve Theatre in Leicester this Christmas before the London run in 2027. Nikolai Foster (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) will direct.

Who will star in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Michael Ball will star in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Willy Wonka. Making his West End debut in 1985 as Marius in the original London production of Les Miserables, Ball is one of the UK’s most recognised stage actors. His recent theatre credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Aspects of Love and Hairspray.
