Who Designed and Built Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre?
The theatre was created by the team behind Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, the current home of the multi-award-winning revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production, Starlight Express. It was designed by architecture firm Haworth Tompkins (HT), who were also behind the refurbishment of the National Theatre and the Young Vic. This new London theatre was created specifically for the stage adaptation of The Hunger Games and built to operate for 8-10 years, before the materials will then be relocated or recycled, making it environmentally sustainable. The company will be launching another brand-new theatre venue in London in 2026, with the Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre set to open.
What Is Playing at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre?

Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre is home to the world premiere of The Hunger Games: On Stage, where it opened in October 2025. Based on the Lionsgate motion picture and the beloved book phenomenon by Suzanne Collins, the production is written by Conor McPherson (Girl From the North Country) and directed by Matthew Dunster (2:22 – A Ghost Story).
The story, set in a dystopian world consisting of the wealthy Capitol and 13 districts in varying states of poverty, Katniss Everdeen volunteers herself in place of her sister in the annual “Hunger Games”. The story follows her as she fights for her survival through a televised, mandatory fight-to-the-death against other young people.
