The murder of old King Laius is a cold case, but according to the Oracle, once the perpetrator has been caught all will be well. The citizens turn to their new king, Oedipus, for guidance; he solved the riddle of the Sphinx, after all. Oedipus vows to hunt down the killer and usher in their new era of salvation, no matter the cost. But what will he uncover in his determined pursuit of the truth, and what lurks within the labyrinth of fear and love he is about to enter?Ancient Greek tragedy Oedipus is one of the most famous plays of all time, and its harrowing story of broken relationships and twists of fate never fails to have audiences on the edge of their seats.
This new version is by Ella Hickson (The Writer; Anna; Wendy & Peter Pan), and co-directed by Old Vic Artistic Director Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical; Groundhog Day) and Tony Award-nominated choreographer Hofesh Shechter (Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway). Together, they bring fresh excitement to the tale at one of London’s most dynamic producing theatres.
