What is the magic show Penn & Teller about?
This magical double act are arguably the most well-known magicians in the world, with their personas - the towering and gregarious Penn, the shows narrator, opposite the non-verbal Teller, a master of mime - being just as much a part of the entertainment as their illusions.
Penn & Teller turn tried-and-tested tricks on their head - sometimes quite literally - with a tradition-skewering approach that melds side-splitting comedy, slapstick, mime, and their innovative take on classic illusions with top-notch stage craft and mind-boggling feats. Prepare to be dazzled as this brand-new stage show, in celebration of 50 years of working together, showcases the duo’s magic and mayhem in brand-new, never-before-seen tricks.
Who are Penn & Teller?
Penn & Teller - aka Penn Jillette and Raymond Joseph Teller - are an entertainment double act who have worked together since 1975, when they were first introduced by a mutual friend who initially performed with them as a trio.
The pair’s stratospheric rise to fame began in the 80s, when the third member of their group quit showbiz, and the two rebranded as Penn & Teller, performing an acclaimed off-Broadway show and winning an Emmy for their PBS special Penn & Teller Go Public. The duo have since had three runs of different shows on Broadway and made numerous cameos in films and television shows, including Friends, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The West Wing and The Simpsons. They have also hosted their own shows, including conspiracy theory debunking series B*llshit! and illusionist competition reality show Penn & Teller: Fool Us on ITV.
Often dubbed the “Bad Boys of Magic”, the two were refused entry to the Magicians Circle for their illusion-shattering, edgy take on many classical feats of magic, which reveal secrets to the audience. Penn & Teller are Emmy, Obie, Writers’ Guild and BAFTA Award-winners and Olivier nominees. In 2013, they were honoured with Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The duo also have the longest-running show in Las Vegas, with their residency at the Las Vegas Rio.
