Redcliffe in London

Following its critically acclaimed Off-West End debut in 2026, new British musical Redcliffe transfers to the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus. Written by West End performer Jordan Luke Gage, the true story of two gay men in Bristol in 1752 has been transformed into a “masterpiece of a musical on queer love which uplifts, entertains and unites” (What's On Stage). Secure your tickets to experience one of the best musicals heading to the stage in 2027 today!

What Is Redcliffe About?

Set against the backdrop of an oppressive 18th-century England, Redcliffe follows William Critchard and Richard Arnold as they find themselves swept into a hurricane of passion, danger and self-discovery. From different walks of life, the two men are brought together by a chance encounter in Redcliffe, Bristol. As their connection deepens, their love ultimately ends with their deaths.

Blending a vast range of music within its score, including traditional musical theatre and soaring choral arrangements, Redcliffe is a musical which has “all the makings of a modern classic” (Stalls to Stage).

The History of Redcliffe

Inspired to write this show after a visit to the Bristol archives, Jordan Luke Gage first presented Redcliffe at MTFestUK, a platform dedicated to showcasing new work, in 2024. The first full workshop performance was staged at The Other Palace in 2024, with subsequent performances happening before being fully staged for the first time in a limited, and highly successful run, at the Southwark Playhouse Borough in 2026.
