The Kite Runner Tickets

Playhouse Theatre

Khaled Hosseini’s harrowing yet beautiful tale of friendship, The Kite Runner returns to the West End stage following huge acclaim earlier this year, for a limited run at the Playhouse Theatre from June 2017.

The Kite Runner is a haunting yet beautiful story of friendship that crosses both cultural and international borders. Following a hugely successful run at the start of 2017, The Kite Runner will once again return to the West End stage for another limited run at The Playhouse Theatre, with performances running from 8th June 2017 to 29th July 2017.

The play depicts one man’s struggle to face up to his own personal history and also find redemption, in a moving and powerful tale of friendship, which has always been in the shadow of guilt and betrayal.

Beginning in Afghanistan, a divided country on the brink of way, The Kite Runner tells the story of two friends who are dramatically ripped apart forever. On a peaceful day in Kabul, with anticipation in the air and the overwhelming happiness of the annual kite tournament, neither Amir or Hassan can predict the horrible events that will change their lives forever.

After touring round the UK and delighting audiences all around the country, the show first opened to great acclaim at the Wyndham’s Theatre in December 2016, receiving 5 stars from The Stage and being described as ‘a seriously good piece of storytelling’ and ‘an enthralling tale beautifully told’.

The Kite Runner was originally written as a book by Khaled Hosseini, the award-winning American writer who was originally born in Kabul in Afghanistan. Being first released in 2003, the book sold a million copies in the first two years, slowly building its success before becoming a New York Times best seller in March 2005 and continuing to be so for over two years.

Following its publication The Kite Runner was transformed into a film starring Ahmad Khan Mamoodzada, Homayoun Ershadi and Khalid Aballa, being directed by Marc Foster and winning a huge range of awards.

The play is adapted by Matthew Spangler, the American playwright who has previously received great praise for his plays Albatross and Tortilla Curtain, as well as winning three Elliot Norton Awards.

The Kite Runner returns to the West End for another run of the acclaimed play for a limited period at the Playhouse Theatre in London, with performances set to begin on 8th June 2017 and running until 29th July 2017.

Incidentally the play Kite Runner is a superbly great piece of theatre and in the final moments of the play - as I gazed on, glassy eyed and wrestled with my emotions- I realized that there was not a dry eye in the house!
