What is the musical Top Hat about?

When Broadway star and notorious bachelor Jerry Travers comes to London to open a show, the last thing he expects is to fall in love. But when he crosses paths with model Dale Tremont, Jerry falls head over tap shoes for her. Having gotten off on the wrong foot at their first meeting, when Jerry’s tap dancing practice in the hotel suite above hers kept Dale up at night, Jerry vows to win her heart. But true love is never easy - not in the least because Dale mistakenly believes Jerry to be his bumbling producer Horace, who is married to Dale's best friend, Madge. Plus, there’s the small matter of fashion designer Alberto Beddini, who is also hopelessly smitten with Dale - and when Beddini whisks her off to Venice for a fashion show, Jerry follows in hot pursuit to try and clear up the misunderstanding and win the heart of the woman he loves…

Top Hat is a glitzy, hilarious and farcical whirlwind romance, featuring some of the Golden Age of Hollywood's most beloved songs, including “Cheek to Cheek”, “Let’s Face the Music and Dance”, and “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

Based on the Oscar-nominated 1935 movie musical of the same name, starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat premiered in Milton Keynes in 2011 and toured the UK before transferring to the West End, where it won several Laurence Olivier awards. The show has since embarked on additional UK and US tours, and this brand new production first premiered at the Chichester Festival Theatre to critical acclaim.

Who are the cast of Top Hat?

Several lead cast members from the Chichester Festival Theatre run are joining the show for its London transfer, including Phillip Attmore (The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, Hello, Dolly) as Jerry Travers, Sally Ann Triplett (Anything Goes, Cabaret) as Madge and Clive Carter (Come From Away, Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Horace. Rising star Amara Okereke (The Light in the Piazza, My Fair Lady) joins the cast at Queen Elizabeth Hall as Dale Tremont.
