What Is Tosca About?
Tosca is based on Victorien Sardou’s 1887 play, La Tosca. The story follows beautiful singer Tosca, who is deeply in love with artist Cavaradossi, but corrupt and cruel police chief Scarpia is competing for her affections. When Scarpia arrests Cavaradossi for aiding an escaped political prisoner, he gives Tosca a choice: reveal the prisoner’s location or watch Cavaradossi die. As Tosca becomes more desperate to reject Scarpia’s advances and derail his plans, she resorts to deadly tactics.
The History of English National Opera: Tosca

Some of the notable productions of Tosca include Catherine Malfitano’s productions in 2010 and 2016. The last revival by Christof Loy was in 2022, starring Sinéad Campbell-Wallace and Adam Smith.

Brilliant, my first opera and I was in awe of the skill of each performer. The scenes for all three acts were stunning and the costumes were beautiful, and portrayed the themes and progression of power in a clever way. Would recommend.
