Troilus and Cressida Tickets
Heroes, honour and the reality of war unravel in Shakespeare’s epic Trojan satire. A rarely-performed drama with a gripping conclusion.
Troilus and Cressida in London
The Trojan war forged heroes and created mythology… but what really happened on the ground? Shakespeare’s keen-eyed satire Troilus and Cressida brings two worlds together with an almighty crash. Romance, war and the gap between mythology and reality unfold on stage at the Globe Theatre at Bankside this autumn, in one of the Bard’s lesser-performed - but absolutely gripping - plays.
What is Troilus and Cressida about?
The mightiest warriors from Greece and Troy are locked in a bitter but noble battle, and amidst the violence Trojan prince Troilus falls in love with beautiful Cressida. But when Cressida is taken to the Greek camp and they separately face an uncertain future, can the lovers remain faithful?
Years later, the war is still dragging on. Troy’s bombastic propaganda is failing and the Greek camp has been reduced to a wasteland. The shine has worn off, and words like “hero”, “victory” and “honour” don’t mean much any more. As Shakespeare’s satire rumbles on, the characters and audience must ask: how do we cope when the stories that build our civilisations - and the heroes we put on pedestals - don’t live up to expectations?
Troilus and Cressida is one of Shakespeare’s lesser-performed plays, with a striking satirical current running through the doomed romances and grand mythology that inspired it.

Quite a cynical play mocking heroes. Not much of a love story. The staging is fantastic and the director made the show very entertaining. Lots of characters but Team Troy is visually very different from Team Greece so it helps to remember who is w Read more
