What is the dance show Alchemies about?
Wayne McGregor: Alchemies is a visionary dance programme by Sir Wayne McGregor, one of the most imaginative voices in 21st‑century choreography. The evening presents three works:
Yugen
Yugen was created by Wayne McGregor in 2018 for The Royal Ballet’s Bernstein Centenary celebrations. Set to Leonard Bernstein’s "Chichester Psalms", the ballet is contemplative in tone and developed in collaboration with artist Edmund de Waal, fashion designer Shirin Guild and lighting designer Lucy Carter.
Untitled, 2023
Untitled, 2023 is a collaboration between McGregor and minimalist artist Carmen Herrera, who created her only stage designs for this production. The piece is set to a score by Anna Thorvaldsdottir and explores form and perspective through movement and design.
New Wayne McGregor
This world premiere presents a new ballet by Wayne McGregor, continuing his choreographic exploration of physicality and creative partnerships. Further details will be announced by The Royal Ballet during the season.
