This breathtaking new staging by Michael Mayer uses spectacular projections and animations to bring the Met audiences into the gilded world of ancient Eygpt.Ethiopian princess Aida has been captured and enslaved by the Egyptians, who are unaware of her true identity. Despite her captivity, Aida has fallen in love with ambitious Egyptian soldier General Radamès. Radamès is secretly in love with Aida too, despite believing her to be a lowly prisoner, and the pair must contend with the jealousy of Aida’s Egyptian mistress Amneris, who will stop at nothing to claim Radamès for herself. When Aida’s father King Amonasro invades Egypt to free his daughter, Radamès is chosen to lead a war against the Ethiopians and the lovers are forced to decide which is more important... their love for one another, or loyalty to their countries?
