Catch it at Todd Haimes Theatre in spring 2025, as part of their latest exciting season of work On- and Off-Broadway.What is English about?
In a classroom not far from Tehran, a group of adults are trying to get a handle on accents, punctuation and vocabulary. As they prepare for their English proficiency exams and jump through confusing linguistic hoops, much more than a shared wish to learn a new language emerges. Hidden hopes and dreams, frustrations and secrets tumble out, but can they overcome the limits of words and discover what they really want to say?Mixing humour and drama and touching on universal themes, English premiered at Atlantic Theatre Company as a co-production with Roundabout Theatre Company. In 2023 it had its “engaging, provocative and ultimately moving” (Whats On Stage) European premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon.
