What is the play Fallen Angels about? 

In Noël Coward’s elegant romp Fallen Angels, two urbane, upper‑class wives, Julia Sterroll and Jane Banbury, find themselves with time on their hands when both their husbands go away on a business trip. What begins as champagne‑sipped banter soon stirs into the revelation that both women share a dalliance with the same charming suitor, who is on his way to visit from France. As old flirtations bubble up and rivalries take centre stage, the social facades crack and comedic chaos ensues.

Fallen Angels has Coward’s trademark mix of sophistication and sly satire; light, witty and poised, yet beneath the surface pulses a sharp commentary on marital convention and genteel duplicity. With its playful foibles and timeless wit, this show invites you into a world of manners, mischief and champagne-light innuendo. 

The History of Fallen Angels

Fallen Angels premiered in 1925 at the then‑Globe, now the Gielgud, Theatre in London (not to be mistaken for Shakespeare's Globe) under the pen of Noël Coward, who at the time was consolidating his reputation as Britain’s master of high‑society folly.

The play wittily exposed the social mores of its era -  two married wives admitting past liaisons, and the potential of both seeing the same lover, but its content caused some scandal at its outset, for it's depiction of fame characters with "loose morals", and required some modifications before it could be approved by the Lord Chamberlain’s office in the UK. The show has since had several revivals across Europe and has also been adapted for television. This revival marks the first major Broadway production of the show for many years. 

The Cast of Fallen Angels on Broadway

This Broadway revival of Fallen Angels stars Emmy nominee Rose Byrne as Jane Banbury. Byrne is best known for her work in Damages, Bridesmaids, and Platonic.

Joining Byrne is Tony Award winner and Emmy nominee Kelli O’Hara as Julia Sterroll. O’Hara is a Broadway favorite celebrated for her acclaimed performances in The King and I, The Light in the Piazza, and Days of Wine and Roses.

The Creative Team of Fallen Angels

The production is directed by Scott Ellis, the Interim Artistic Director of Roundabout Theatre Company. Ellis is a Tony and Emmy nominee. His credits include She Loves Me, Kiss Me, Kate, and Tootsie on Broadway, as well as The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. 

Fallen Angels is presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company as part of their 2025–2026 Broadway season.
