Who Was Galileo?
Galileo Galilei remains one of the most influential figures in scientific history. His improvements to the telescope and observations of celestial bodies helped support the theory that the Earth revolves around the sun, a revolutionary idea in the early 1600s. His work led to a famous trial by the Roman Inquisition in 1633, where he was forced to recant his findings and spent the remainder of his life under house arrest. Despite this, his discoveries laid the foundations for modern astronomy and scientific inquiry.
