About Grounded

Grounded follows Jess, a talented fighter pilot whose life changes drastically when an unplanned pregnancy sidelines her from combat missions. Reassigned to a Reaper drone base in Las Vegas, Jess now oversees drone strikes from thousands of miles away, grappling with the emotional and ethical challenges of remote warfare. As she navigates this high-tech battlefield, Jess struggles to maintain her sanity and sense of self while executing deadly missions through a screen. The opera explores the psychological toll of modern combat and the personal conflicts arising from her new role, painting a stark portrait of the dehumanizing aspects of contemporary warfare.

Cast and Creative Team

The cast and creative team behind Grounded bring exceptional talent and vision to this powerful opera. Mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo stars as Jess, embodying the role with depth and intensity.
