What is Joy The Musical about?

Joy Mangano is a single mom struggling to keep her family afloat in the face of her mother’s agoraphobia, her deadbeat ex-husband Tony’s interference and ever-growing financial issues. One day, frustrated by a faulty cleaning product, Joy comes up with an idea that will change her future forever: the Miracle Mop. Joy pursues her dream of making the product accessible to working moms all across the country, inventing a bright new future for herself and her family. But when a sexist, corrupt corporation tries to halt Joy’s entrepreneurial efforts, she must fight to defend her dreams and stand up for what is right.

This inspiring story of perseverance, innovation and self-belief is based on the thrilling true story of self-made entrepreneur and QVC queen Joy Mangano. Her story was previously adapted into the 2015 movie Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence, and this new musical version draws from both the film and Mangano’s autobiography Inventing Joy.

Joy premiered in New Jersey in 2022 before being further developed for its NYC run. “Heartwarming and stirring” (Broadway World), you wont want to miss this absolutely joyful new musical.
