Tony Award-nominated writer-director team Bess Wohl (Grand Horizons) and Whitney White (Jaja’s African Hair Braiding) present a brand new play about friendships, legacies and the rocky road to empowerment as Liberation premieres Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre. What is Liberation about?
In 1970, six women who have never met gather in a basement gymnasium at their local community center. They’re determined to shake up their lives and disrupt the status quo.Fifty years later, one of the women’s daughters has an important question: what the hell happened?
Provocative, playful and revealing, Liberation is a galvanising new play that explores what really goes on when women meet behind closed doors. It is the recipient of the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award and now comes to New York for a limited time only.
