What Is Magic Mike Live About?

Based on the hit films Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL, this live production reimagines the story as a dance-driven theatrical experience. Rather than a traditional narrative, Magic Mike Live follows a series of themed routines that celebrate confidence, empowerment and connection. Each number blends contemporary dance styles, from hip hop and street to Latin and contemporary, with theatrical staging and red-hot musical numbers.

The show is designed to be inclusive and celebratory, and alongside its slick choreography and carefully crafted musical mixes, there are moments of playful audience participation - but only for those who want to get involved in the action. This NYC premiere, beginning October 2026, also includes brand new numbers, never before seen at any other Magic Mike Live show!

The History of Magic Mike

The original Magic Mike movie was released in 2012, directed by Steven Soderbergh and loosely inspired by Channing Tatum’s early career experiences. Its commercial success led to the sequel Magic Mike XXL in 2015, and later Magic Mike’s Last Dance in 2023. The stage adaptation premiered in Las Vegas in 2017 before expanding internationally, including a long-standing production in London, where the show has just celebrated its 7th anniversary, as well as tours across Europe and Australia. This production marks the show's New York premiere, in a custom-built venue, located in the previous home of the famous Copacabana nightclub.

The show features a rotating cast of professionally trained dancers, bringing expertise across multiple dance disciplines. Casting varies by performance.

Magic Mike Live New York Creative Team

Magic Mike Live is created and conceived by Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, 22 Jump Street), who co-directs with co-creator Logan Lucky (22 Jump Street, White House Down) and Alison Faulk (choreographer for Janet Jackson, P!NK, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears).

Choreography is by Faulk and associate director Luke Broadlick (Choreography for Britney Spears’ “Femme Fatale” tour, work with artists including Katy Perry and John Legend). Leo Moctezuma (Dreamgirls) acts as contributing choreographer, with Dreya Webber (Michael Jackson’s This Is It) as aerial choreographer and designer.

Production design is by Rachel O'Toole (The Office) with costume direction by Emmy winner Marina Toybina (So You Think You Can Dance), Sound design by Nick Kourtides (), lighting design by Philip Gladwell (Hairspray), scenic design by design team Anita LaScala and Rob Bissinger (2012 NY Giants Opening Ceremony at MetLife Stadium), and music supervision, composition and arrangements by Jack Rayner (American Idol).

Although Tatum doesn’t appear on stage (though he hasn’t ruled out a potential cameo at some point), his vision for the show is infused throughout, from the moment you enter all the way through to the electric finale.
