What is the magic show Mindplay about?

Seamlessly blending stage magic, mentalism and his own real-life experiences, Mindplay is a brand new solo-show from award-winning mentalist Vinny DePonto that asks - what’s on your mind? Audience participation plays a big role in the show as DePonto invites theatergoers on stage to read their minds, while revealing more of his own, too. Inspired by DePonto’s grandparents' experiences with memory loss, the “mystifying and moving” (DC Theater Arts) Mindplay is at turns touching and mindboggling.

Full of gasp-inducing feats and stunning stage magic that blurs the line between reality and illusion, this show will leave you asking - how did he do that? And for those more nervous about interaction - don’t worry, some audience members do have the option to sit back and be swept away by this “inviting, nostalgia-ridden gem of a performance” (Broadway World).

Who are the cast and creatives of Mindplay?

Mindplay is created and performed by Drama Desk-nominated mentalist Vinny DePonto. DePonto’s previous work includes his critically acclaimed one-man show Charlatan, as well as consulting work on the 2018 Tony-winning Broadway revival of Angels in America, Ghost Light at Lincoln Center, and Behind the City, in which he also performed. His TV work includes Netflix's Magic for Humans and NBC's Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.

Mindplay is co-written by Vinny DePonto and Drama Desk-nominated playwright and screenwriter Josh Koenigsberg (Orange Is The New Black, High Fidelity, The Rise and Fall of Marcus Monroe). Koenigsberg and DePonto previously collaborated on Charlatan. Direction is by Andrew Neisler, the Associate Artistic Director of Ars Nova. Neisler’s previous credits include Folk Wandering, The Gray Man, Charlatan and Clown Bar.

Scenic design is by Sibyl Wickersheimer (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), lighting design is by Christopher Bowser (Folk Wandering), and sound design is by Kathy Ruvuna (Mary Gets Hers), with composition by Alexander Harris. Mindplay is produced by Tony, Emmy and Olivier-winning producer Eva Price (Dear Evan Hanson) and Tony Award-winning director Thomas Kail (Hamilton).
