Verdi’s Masterpiece Returns to The Met - Rigoletto Tickets

Verdi’s heartbreaking masterpiece Rigoletto returns to the Metropolitan Opera in a striking Weimar-inspired production by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher. Maestro Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts, with a second run led by Maurizio Benini. Set in 1920s Weimar Germany, the production parallels the original Renaissance court's decadence and danger. This tragic tale of jealousy, vengeance, and sacrifice remains one of Verdi's most popular operas, featuring some of the most recognizable music in the repertoire.

About Rigoletto

Rigoletto follows the tragic story of a hunchbacked court jester who serves the Duke of Mantua. Despite his position, he fiercely protects his innocent daughter, Gilda. The Duke's notorious womanizing leads to a series of dramatic events that entangle Gilda, driving Rigoletto to seek revenge. As the plot unfolds, themes of power, corruption, and vengeance are explored against a backdrop of gripping emotional intensity. Verdi's masterful composition and the opera's powerful narrative have cemented Rigoletto as one of the most enduring works in opera history.

Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) was a pioneering Italian composer whose work revolutionized opera. His profound understanding of drama and character, along with his innovative musical techniques, have cemented his place as a central figure in the opera canon. With 26 operas to his name, including Rigoletto, Verdi's influence continues to shape the art form.
