The Queen of Spades (Pikovaya Dama) is a tale of passion and obsession. The story follows Hermann, an officer consumed by his love for Lisa and a dangerous fixation on the secret to winning at cards. Lisa, torn between her love for Hermann and her engagement to the noble Prince Yeletsky, becomes entangled in a web of despair. The Countess, Lisa’s grandmother, holds the key to Hermann’s quest, but her presence leads to a chilling climax. Tchaikovsky’s score captures the psychological tension and emotional depth of this dark opera, featuring standout arias like "Why These Tears?" and Hermann’s anguished soliloquies.

Who are the cast and creatives of The Queen of Spades?

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva (Tosca, La Bohème) makes her highly anticipated role debut as Lisa, opposite tenor Brian Jagde (Madama Butterfly, Turandot), who also debuts as Hermann. Baritone Igor Golovatenko (Don Carlos, Rigoletto) reprises the role of Prince Yeletsky, while mezzo-soprano Violeta Urmana (Parsifal, La Gioconda) plays the ghostly Countess. Baritone Alexey Markov (Eugene Onegin, Don Giovanni) completes the cast as Count Tomsky.
