Tosca Tickets

Metropolitan Opera House

Experience the intrigue and romance of Puccini’s devastating political thriller, as the opera returns to New York this season.

Tosca Tickets: Sparks Fly in Puccini’s Melodrama

David McVicar’s acclaimed staging of Tosca returns to New York this season, in a thrilling display of intrigue, romance and murder. Puccini’s intense opera about a volatile singer who sacrifices everything for love showcases his talents at their most exhilarating. With tickets to see it at the Met Opera, audiences will be reminded why Tosca is one of the most popular operas ever staged.

What is Tosca about?

Beautiful diva Floria Tosca is a stunning singer with a complicated love life. She has hopelessly fallen for artist Cavaradossi but is pursued by corrupt police chief Scarpia. When Scarpia arrests Cavaradossi for helping political prisoners escape, he uses it as leverage to blackmail Tosca: reveal the location of the harboured prisoners or let her true love die. With nowhere to turn and desperation setting in, Tosca takes deadly, devastating action.

Featuring beautiful motifs and some of the most resonant music in the operatic canon (“Vissi d’arte”; “E lucevan le stelle”), Tosca has thrilled audiences for over a hundred years, and is one of the most-performed operas in the world.

Puccini’s Passionate Political Opera

Taking place over 24 hours, Puccini’s opera is an intense and nerve-wracking experience filled with heightened drama, emotions and tragedy. It was born after Puccini watched a production of French playwright Victorien Sardou’s La Tosca in 1889, and finally premiered in Rome in 1900 to mixed reviews. That didn’t stop audiences from loving it, however, and its story of intrigue and sacrifice has kept them coming back for more in opera houses across the world.

Puccini’s other operas include Madama Butterfly and La Boheme, both of which have inspired some of the biggest 20th-century musicals including Miss Saigon and Rent.

Cast and Creative Team

Tosca at the Met is staged by David McVicar and conducted by Xian Zhang. They lead a cast including soprano Aleksandra Kurzak as Tosca opposite tenor SeokJong Baek as Cavaradossi, and baritone George Gagnidze as cruel and sadistic Scarpia. Later in the season, Lise Davidsen takes on the role of Tosca opposite tenor Freddie De Tommaso as Cavaradossi and baritone Quinn Kelsey as Scarpia.

Finally, in the winter, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky and tenor Brian Jagde return as the doomed lovers, following their acclaimed 2021 performances, opposite bass-baritone Bryn Terfel - his first Met role in over a decade.
