A Midsummer Night's Dream Tickets

Barbican Theatre

Ghosts star Mathew Baynton delights as Bottom in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s magical and mischievous production.

Mischief and Magic With A Midsummer Night’s Dream Tickets

Get lost in an enchanted forest where lovers roam, fairies meddle and amateur actors turn into Asses - the Royal Shakespeare Company’s spectacular new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream transfers to the Barbican Theatre for a special Christmas season! Starring Ghosts’ Mathew Baynton as Bottom, this joyful play is “a ravishing fusion of flamboyancy and fun” (The Guardian) that opened to sold-out audiences in Stratford-upon-Avon earlier this year.

About A Midsummer Night’s Dream

When four young lovers leave the court of Athens and head into the enchanted forest, they think they have escaped anyone who wants to control them. But the sprite Puck is watching, and he has mischief on his mind. Soon, Demetrius, Helena, Hermia, and Lysander are caught between the human and fairy worlds, where chaos rules and a feuding King and Queen are battling to get the upper hand.

As the four lovers stumble through the trees, audiences can also enjoy the exploits of Bottom and his amateur touring theatre company, who are drawn into the war between King Oberon and Queen Titania with hilarious results.

Shakespeare’s rebellious comedy about love and transformation is the perfect show to watch in the winter months, and director Eleanor Rhode’s acclaimed production is packed with warmth, good-natured tricks and a celebration of love in all its forms.

Mathew Baynton in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Mathew Baynton made his Royal Shakespeare Company debut as a “hilarious” (The Guardian) Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and transfers with the production for its London season. Baynton is one of the most popular comic actors working in television and has written and appeared in hits including Ghosts, Yonderland and Horrible Histories.

Further casting includes Andrew Richardson (Bridge Theatre: Guys and Dolls) as Oberon and Theseus, Katherine Pearce (Waterloo Road) as Puck, Sirine Saba as Titania and Hippolyta, Nicholas Armfield as Demetrius, Ryan Hutton as Lysander, Boadicea Ricketts as Helena and Dawn Sievewright as Hermia.

Matthew Baynton vg as Bottom, making great use of his long legs, and there were some interesting innovations with set design and nice illusory touches. Not the best Dream I’ve seen (but have seen so many!) but younger audiences in particular would l Read more

An enchanting production with very clever staging. Mechanicals and Lovers alike deliver five star performances. Pyramus and Thisbe is just wonderful!

It was fine, with some good performances. But I've only ever seen musicals here, I believe, and I do think the huge stage left this cast rather overshadowed. Perhaps it looks okay from the stalls but when you're up high you can see all the acres of Read more
