London Coliseum

Aida is the iconic operatic story of love and honour in a war torn world, brought to life this September at the London Coliseum by ENO’s incredible musical ensemble. With direction from the Olivier award winning Phelim McDermott and conduction by Keri-Lynn Wilson this archetypal production is set to astonish audiences once more.

Aida, the archetypal operatic love story, makes its spectacular entrance to the London Coliseum this September. The classic tale of love, duty, betrayal and war will be brought to dramatic life by director Phelim McDermott, with conducting by Keri-Lynn Wilson and ENO’s award winning chorus and orchestra. Coming to London 28 September – 2 December.

The iconic story follows Aida, the imprisoned daughter of an Ethiopian king, who finds her internal loyalties brutally questioned by her tender love affair with the Egyptian commander, Radamès. Radamès is charged to lead the attack on Ethiopia and similarly is forced to consider sacrificing his love on the altar of duty.

Aida is opera on the grandest scale, following all the spectacular and sublime tropes audiences expect from this beautiful and dramatic art form.

Following his most recent ENO production Akhnaten, Olivier Award-winning director Phelim McDermott leads this bold new performance. Keri-Lynn Wilson (The Girl of the Golden West) conducts Verdi’s heart thumping score which leaps between striking military set pieces to affectionate lyricism.

Aida sees two exciting ENO debuts from sopranos Latonia Moore and Morenike Fadayomi who will be sharing titular role. Popular ENO artist Gwyn Hughes Jones plays the conflicted commander Radamès. Mezzo-sopranos Michelle DeYoung and Dana Beth Miller split the role of Amneris, while Musa Ngqungwana makes his UK operatic debut as the conquered Ethiopian ruler Amonasro.

This powerful and emotive show is the benchmark for expansive operatic tales, a deeply moving and astonishing production not to be missed.
